Privacy Policy — HCS Chromebook Notifications
This policy applies to the HCS Chromebook Notifications Chrome extension, deployed to school-managed Chromebooks by Hallett Cove School IT staff.
What the extension does
The extension periodically contacts the school’s IT server to check whether IT staff have issued a notification or action for the device — for example, to display a message, recall a loan device, or notify a student that their repair is ready.
Data collected by the extension
The extension transmits the device serial number to the school’s IT server. This identifies the physical device, not the user. No name, email address, student ID, or any other personal information is collected or transmitted by the extension.
Server-side logging
The school’s IT server records standard web server data when the extension checks in, including:
- Device serial number
- IP address of the request
- Browser user agent string
- Timestamp and action level delivered
This information is used solely for IT troubleshooting and device management purposes and is not shared with third parties.
Data sharing
No data collected by this extension is shared with, sold to, or accessible by any third party. All communication is between the Chromebook and Hallett Cove School’s own servers.
Data retention
Check-in logs are retained on the school’s internal systems in accordance with the school’s standard IT data retention policies.
