As we head into Week 9, the term continues to move quickly, with plenty happening across Hallett Cove School. It has been great to see students and staff maintaining strong momentum through a busy part of the term, with learning, events and activities continuing across all areas of the school. As we move towards the final weeks of Term 3, our focus remains on maintaining high expectations, supporting students to finish the term well, and continuing to create a positive, connected and engaging learning environment for everyone.
Innovation with Lot 14
Hallett Cove School sent a group of interested students to tour three different innovative companies within the
‘Lot Fourteen’ complex in Adelaide.
They discovered how AI is utilised in different areas of research and got to feel like cyber security officers while using the tech that allows the experts to catch the bad guys!
Finally, they explored the ‘Australian Space Discovery Centre’ and listened to how they are trying to reduce the issue of space junk.
A range of different possible careers were put to them and they only wished they had more time to explore the possibilities!
Our Hallett Cove School Snow Trip to Mount Hotham was an incredible week filled with adventure, fun and plenty of snow! The temperature didn’t rise above 0°C all week, making for some very cold days on the mountain, but that didn’t stop our students from getting out there and enjoying the experience. Throughout the week, students made fantastic progress in their skiing and snowboarding, building their confidence, skills and independence on the slopes. For many students, this was their first time seeing and experiencing snow, making the trip even more memorable. From the excitement of the first day to the final runs down the mountain, it was a fun-filled week that created plenty of great memories for our students and staff.
Australian Dance Theatre Inspiration
Ms Beyer’s Senior Dance class enjoyed a performance by the Australian Dance Theatre at the Odeon Theatre.
The show was about cultural identity and the story of past and present relationships between Tagalaka first nations people and immigrant gold mining Cantonese immigrants. Students were inspired by the physical contemporary dance infused with digital video, song and drama.
Students look forward to presenting their own choreography at our Dance Night in Week 9.
Lights, Camera, Action!
Ms Huston’s Year 9 Drama class experienced what it would be like to be working as an actor in a stage combat scene in the film and stage acting industry.
Facilitating the session was Ruth Fallon and assistant Val, from The State Festival Theatre. Ruth, a professional actor, martial artist and action choreographer, took the students through their paces culminating in short combat action scenes.
The students learnt that discipline and practice is required to be successful and safe in this staged action form and thoroughly enjoyed the session. More sessions are planned so we can delve in even deeper.
Wishes for the Future – SALA Art Show
Our talented student artists recently showcased their incredible creativity in our SALA Art Show, exploring this year’s theme, ‘Wishes for the Future’.
It was wonderful to see our families and staff getting involved and voting for their People’s Choice Award — and we’re thrilled to announce this year’s prize winners!
Reception–Year 4: Jasiel Neuling
Years 5–6: Elias Neuling
Middle School & People’s Choice Award: Jenifer Baldwin
Senior School: Tahlia Hosking
A huge congratulations to all of our award winners!
Most importantly, we are so incredibly proud of all of our student artists. Your creativity, imagination and willingness to share your ideas with our community made the exhibition truly special.
Thank you for inspiring us with your visions and wishes for the future!
Refurbished Courts
Our newly relaid basketball and tennis courts are already proving to be a huge hit, with students making the most of the upgraded spaces every chance they get!
These fantastic new courts provide a safer, high-quality surface for sport, recreation and connection, and it’s been wonderful to see them buzzing with activity!
From the Stage to the Gallery
Recently our arts students enjoyed an incredible performance of ‘Anastasia’ The Broadway Musical before exploring the ‘Our Mob First Nations’ exhibition at the Adelaide Festival Centre.
From the stage to the gallery, students were inspired by the power of visual and performing arts to share stories of hope, identity, culture and imagination.
What a wonderful opportunity to experience creativity and storytelling in action!
Schoolies Festival
Our Year 12’s prepared for Schoolies with a morning of wellbeing, connection and practical support, delivered by Encounter Youth – Schoolies Festival.
They were treated to free pancakes and barista coffee/hot chocolate, while the Encounter Youth Team led stress-management and study tips, peer-led schoolies conversations and an introduction to Schoolies Festival™ supports and the Encounter Youth Green Team.
A great opportunity to make sure our students feel informed, supported and prepared for the next chapter!
Textiles
Ms Fletcher’s Year 9 Textiles class have been putting their sewing skills into action, creating their very own wheat bags – perfect for the cold nights.
Students created removable, washable covers and sewed in professional style labels with heating instructions, giving their final products a practical and polished look.
A great project combining creativity, sewing skills and functional design.
Quiz Winners
Congratulations to the winners of this terms Maths and General Knowledge Quiz!
Archer, Ethan and Zepher loved picking out their prizes and are ready to defend their title next term!
SA Volleyball School’s Cup
The South Australian Volleyball School’s Cup is a three day, indoor volleyball tournament offered to all schools in South Australia. The cup allows schools to compete for the title of ‘Champion School’. This year it was held at Hallett Cove School, who entered 13 teams, winning 5 medals in total.
Congratulations to all students who represented the school in an exceptional manner, outstanding sportsmanship, team spirit and refereeing too.
All teams showed improvement with better serving, passing skills and court confidence being highlighted by coaches.
A big thank you to the parents who supported, provided transport for their own child and others.
Another shout out to ex-students, Macka, Jedd, Noah, Alex, Alex, Georgia, Eva, Ashlee, Karli and Esme, who the players really look up to. Their care, expertise and positivity cannot be underestimated.
Thanks to the HCS Volleyball staff and P.E. staff who all step in, are willing to help and without their leadership the program would be nowhere as strong.
Special mentions must go to the medallists:
8 Girls Div. 1- Bronze
8 Boys Div. 1 – Bronze
9 Boys Div. 1 – Silver
10 Boys Honours- Silver
10 Girls Honours- Gold
The 10 Boys’ Honours took on the very strong Brighton team in the final for the second year in a row. After winning the first set they lost in four sets, playing some outstanding volleyball.
The 10 Girls’ Honours took the step up from last year’s division to challenge themselves. After winning the first set against the highly drilled and consistent Seymour team, they lost the next two sets being down 2-1. A strong fourth set win follow by a flawless fifth set, they took home the Gold. After quite a few Honours Silvers in our 25-year history, they were able to be the first ever Honours Gold medallists.
Jason & Daisy Representing SA
Jason Neumann and Daisy Boers both travelled to Melbourne to participate in the Australian School Sport Volleyball Championships. Representing SA, they played against other States in high quality best of 5 set matches.
The Girls team finished strongly finishing fourth overall. One highlight was their ability to win the re-match against A.C.T, having lost to them earlier in the week.
The Boys team were strong all week finishing 2nd before playoffs. Unfortunately, they lost the semi to N.S.W and ended up fourth overall also. Another high point was the win over Victoria which was a first for this age group.
Hallett Cove School are so proud of both Daisy and Jason being able to represent South Australia and the way in which they go about their Volleyball at school and higher levels…Congratulations!
Phone Policy and Yondr Pouches
Thank you to all of our students and families for their support with implementing the South Australian Government ban on mobile phones in schools in 2023.
The use of Yondr pouches at Hallett Cove School made an immediate impact on phone use and students are happily engaging in learning, during class and at break times.
Your ongoing support with encouraging your child to follow our phone policy is appreciated.

Kiss and Drop Areas
When dropping off/picking up your child(ren), please remember that the middle lane (Gledsdale Road Kiss and Drop) and right lane (Sanderson Road Kiss and Drop) should not be used as a waiting/parking lane.
Local councils are often out and about at schools ensuring the community use these spaces safely.
Parents and Friends
Hallett Cove School values the contribution of our community and we encourage any of our parents and friend to consider joining the Parents and Friends Group (P&F) in 2024.
The P&F support key functions in the school. Recently, our P&F have held a Sports Day stall, Harmony Day stall, Fun Run and parents are assisting in managing our Street Libraries (outside the Vegetable Garden and Early Years Centre).
Please email info@hcs.sa.edu.au if you are interested in joining P&F and the school will put you in contact with our P&F representative and our Volunteer Coordinator.
