2024 Cabaret Showcase
On Wednesday Week 8, our talented students from the senior Hair & Beauty and Textiles classes joined forces to create a spectacular Cabaret Showcase! From jaw-dropping designs to stunning runway moments, our models lit up the stage, all to the sound of our school’s Jazz band and sensational singers
To top it all off, our Year 12 Food & Hospitality students served up delicious mocktails and catering that made the evening as tasty as it was creative!
A massive shout out to all the amazing students and staff who made this night one to remember!
R U OK? Day
Also in Week 8 we celebrated R U OK? Day.
At lunchtime students made their way over to the oval for plenty of activities to inspire those R U OK? conversations. The weather was stunning and the vibes were amazing. As a whole school we raised $1014 to donate to the R U OK? organisation. A fantastic effort!
It was a huge week filled with treats and fun and hopefully lots of meaningful conversations and checking in on those around you. It is so important to have those conversations and for us to continue checking in on the people we care about so that we create a supportive and safe environment for all.
Festival of Music
Our Festival of Music choir students performed at the Festival Theatre on Saturday with a commissioned song collection titled ‘State of the Arts’.
Year 9 vocal soloists Mia and Caitlin performed as guest artists singing ‘White Flag’ accompanied by our choir teacher Toby Martin and the night concluded with an Abba medley to thunderous applause.
Under the Sea Party!
In Week 9 our Year 12 Child Studies students had the pleasure of hosting an underwater themed party for our receptions!
As part of their assessment they had to plan, organise and run the event making sure everything was suitable for their target audience, as well as making sure everything ran seamlessly!
The little ones had so much fun exploring the underwater wonderland, playing games, taking pictures in the photobooth and enjoying the mermaid glitter toast!
Hallett Cove School Peace Pole
Also in Week 9 a group of students and leaders gathered to unveil Our Hallett Cove School Peace Pole.
In collaboration with Rotary Australia and the Hallett Cove and Districts Lions Club, the Peace Pole was erected in our rose garden, a quiet place to sit and reflect.
Students from across the school spoke about the history of the project and what it means to be a part of the Peace Pole Network.
A Peace Pole is an internationally-recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil in silent prayer for peace on earth. Each Peace Pole bears the message May Peace Prevail on Earth in different languages on each of its four sides and there are estimated over 250,000 Peace Poles in every country across the world dedicated as monuments to peace.
A huge thank you to The Hallett Cove and Districts Lions Club for gifting us our Peace Pole and to our Year 8 Community Class for installing the pole and revitalising the rose garden.
Year 10 Deep Creek Camp
Mr Heywood’s Year 10 Outdoor Education class headed down south for three days of bushwalking, tenting and environmental education in some amazing weather amongst the picturesque Deep Creek National Park.
Students were required to plan, apply and develop their practical outdoor skills and work with others in natural outdoor environments.
Over the three days students hiked in excess of 20 kilometres through some challenging bushland and extreme elevation. Students captured thoughts, reflections, feelings, and observations to criticall
Colour Fun Run
The Hallett Cove School Colour Fun Run was SO MUCH FUN!
We would like to say a huge thank you to all our amazing staff who helped make sure the day was a success but mostly to our Parents & Friends Committee for getting the event off the ground and getting everyone so excited about it.
We must say another HUGE thank you to our HCS community who raised a massive $12,912!!!
Garden Renovations
In the last week of term we were joined by Bunnings Reynella and their team of experts to revamp our rather sad looking veggie patch and garden
What a job they did! With the help from a few students, in one day they:
- Weeded all the garden beds and turned over the soil
- Painted the beds
- Planted veggie seedlings
- Weeded, levelled and bark chipped the area next to the garden to create a seating area with benches and a table
- Planted fruit trees and a passionfruit vine
- Added stepping stones and a fence and archway for the passionfruit to climb
- Added screening to protect the garden from the elements.
A huge thank you to Bunnings Reynella for donating their time and supplies to create such a beautiful garden for us to enjoy and take care of. Our students and staff can use the garden to learn about growing their own food, to reconnect with their community or simply as a quiet place of reflection.

Year 5/6 Radio Visit
Now that they’re amateur radio hosts themselves, Mr Vanstone’s Year 5/6 class recently visited the pros at Coast FM Adelaide
They learnt about the art of hosting a show and the tech it takes to get it on on airwaves. A great opportunity to learn about an exciting industry!
International Agent Visit
In Week 1 this term we hosted 29 international agents from over 10 countries including Cambodia, France, Germany, India, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
The visitors were here to get to know our school and what we have to offer for international students who want to visit us on programs ranging from 2 weeks to 12 years!
The various agents got to hear from Mr Hall and Ms Schriever, who then showed off our magnificent facilities.
The agents were impressed and had nothing but amazing things to say about the ‘feel’ of our school, range of subjects available and the attention to wellbeing we offer all our International students. We look forward to hosting their students in 2025 and beyond.
Lighthouse Giveaway
The Lighthouse Youth Projects Balance Program has been running sessions all year with a select group of students learning all kinds of BMX tricks whilst supporting each other through school and emotions.
One of our students stood out to the Lighthouse Youth team for always being super respectful of the Lighthouse Youth team and the other student’s in the program as well as being 100% engaged and committed to the mentoring program.
The Lighthouse Team decided that they wanted to gift Year 10 student Murray his very own BMX to continue his passion. Murray was stoked with his new bike and spoke to the boys about volunteering with the program in the future.
Olympian Visit
Last week we were joined by a hopeful 2028 Olympian and current member of the national volleyball team!
He joined us to speak to our Year 7 and Year 8 students about the benefits of resilience and perseverance in a sporting context, unpacking how when set backs occur and to not give up whilst attempting to achieve your goals and aspirations.
It provided sound insight into the competitive mindset of an upcoming Australian athlete, with lessons in which we can apply not only on the sporting field, but also in our studies and life in general.
Kindy Visit
Last week we were joined by some little visitors from @goodstart_sheidowhuttclose who came to explore and experiment!
The little people explored our nature play and made nature crowns, they played with all the toys in our Early Years Centre, enjoyed a healthy morning tea and then ventured over to the High School Science labs where our Science Leader Ms Brown and some of our High School students lead them in some very exciting experiments! They even got to make elephant toothpaste!
Narnu Farm
What an adventure our year 4’s had at Narnu Farm!
Their three days on the farm were jam packed with animals, mus and mess adn they came home with plenty of memories (and stains – sorry mums!)

Farewell Seniors!

French Beauty Academy Visit
Students from the Year 10/11 Hair and Beauty class were invited to French Beauty Academy in Adelaide to experience what it would be like to be a beautician
Students got to give each other relaxing facials and design some creative make up looks.
The students were then given a certificate to celebrate being a ‘Frenchie for a Day’.
World Teachers Day
On Friday 25 October we celebrated World Teachers Day!
It was an opportunity for us to take our hat’s off to teachers and celebrate the amazing work they do shaping and educating the mind of the future!

HCS Sport
Year 9/10 Basketball
Hallett Cove School hosted the first round of the Year 9/10 Statewide Boys Basketball competition on Tuesday and the boys played two excellent games against Aldinga Payinthi College and IQRA College
Each game we played we were able to adapt and adjust well to our opponent’s game and secure the win! The hustle and voice on the team was excellent from start to finish and the boys had heaps of fun.
They have progressed to the School Sport SA Statewide Finals day to be played in Term 4. Good luck and well done Hallett Cove School’s Year 10 Statewide Basketball Team!
Year 9/10 Soccer Quaterfinals
On Thursday the 12th of September, Hallett Cove School sent a zealous squad to participate in the quarterfinals of the Year 9/10 Statewide Knock Out Football (Soccer) competition held at Cove FC.
The boys had their work cut out for them, against an organised and polished Glenunga International team, who played a very good brand of football and were able to dominate possession. Even though we did not play our best game, we worked hard and were able to make good use of the possession we did have, creating many attacking opportunities.
The match ended in a draw (1-1), which meant going into a penalty shoot out. The ‘hero award’ has to go to our Goalkeeper, Ethan P, for his performance in the penalty shootout – making two amazing saves to shut Glenunga out of the contest.

After the great character shown in the first game, the boys were hungry to play their second game and record a win against Salisbury. The boys performed very well, dominating possession, defending well and showing great creativity when attacking. The team managed to keep a clean slate and put on a goal scoring clinic to beat the travelling team 9:0.

The team represented Hallett Cove School and the Soccer Program in the best possible fashion with excellent sportsmanship, behaviour and displayed a proficient brand of football.
A special thank you must go to Alfie, who did a fantastic job on the day in his role of linesman and ‘assistant’ to the coach – you’re a legend!
Congratulations to all that participated in this great day! We are now looking forward to moving onto the semi finals/finals (see below).
Year 9/10 Soccer Semifinals
On Wednesday the 25 of September, Hallett Cove School sent a calm but highly motivated squad to participate in semi-finals and finals of the Year 9/10 Statewide Knock Out Football (Soccer) Competition held at Services FM Stadium, Gepps Cross.
While still a competitive match, the boys made lightwork of their semi-final opponents, Tennison Woods College (Mt Gambier), beating them in convincingly: 5-0.

After the strong showing in the semi-final, the boys knew their final was not going to be as easy against their future opponents Golden Grove, who took care of their semi-final competitors Xavier College (Gawler); 6-0.
The final was an exciting game to watch and be a part of – there was lots of action at both goals, some great football, and some great saves but eventually, Golden Grove came out victorious; 2-1.

Again, the squad represented Hallett Cove School and the Soccer Program in the best possible fashion with excellent sportsmanship, behaviour and displayed a high-quality brand of football.
A special thank you must go to Alfie, who again, did a fantastic job on the day in his role of ‘assistant’ to the coach – your recent service to the Soccer Focus Program and the School is greatly appreciated!
I would also like extend this special thank you to all of the International Students who are part of the Year 9/10 Soccer Focus Class this semester, who travelled with the squad to support.
One last “special thank you” must go to the parents/families of the players who came to support their child/the team in their pursuits – it was a great turnout, creating a positive atmosphere and assisting the boys in playing their best football.
All players must be congratulated on their achievement – you should be incredibly proud of yourselves! Please know that I, and the School are incredibly proud of you and the work you have done to achieve this fantastic result! Finishing Runner’s Up to quality opponents, and 2nd overall (out of more than 40 teams across the state who participated in this competition), is an outstanding achievement! – Mr Kenny
Year 7/8 Volleyball
Last Tuesday Hallett Cove School took nine teams over to Reynella East College to participate in the Year 7/8 Volleyball Fleurieu Cup.
Games were contested in good spirits with a variety of teams and playing styles on show. Both Year 8 Girls and Boys were able to win their finals against solid opposition from Reynella.
Well done to all who played and represented the school in a positive manner and performing their refereeing duties to a high level.
Year 7/8 Volleyball
This week Hallett Cove School took 2 teams back to Reynella to participate in the preliminary round of the Statewive Volleyball Knockout competition. We played against Reynella College, Sacred Heart and Adelaide High, whereby the overall winner progresses through to the state finals.
Both of our teams were undefeated for the day and progressed through to the top 6 in the state and are looking forward challenging both Brighton and Heathfield to decide the number 1 school for this age group. Good luck!
Lacrosse Champ
Year 8 student Cale K has been selected to represent South Australia in the upcoming under 15’s national lacrosse tournament.
Cale has been selected as the Under 15’s Stingray’s Lacrosse South Australia team goalie.
Triple Jump Star
A huge congratulations to Year 9 student Ogbonnaya who competed at the Viva SA All Schools Games over the weekend.
On Saturday Ongbonnaya won the U16 Men’s Triple Jump which means he qualifies for the nationals in Brisbane in early December!
A massive well done Ogbonnaya! We’ll be cheering you on from afar in Brisbane!
Phone Policy and Yondr Pouches
Thank you to all of our students and families for their support with implementing the South Australian Government ban on mobile phones in schools in 2023.
The use of Yondr pouches at Hallett Cove School made an immediate impact on phone use and students are happily engaging in learning, during class and at break times.
Your ongoing support with encouraging your child to follow our phone policy is appreciated.
Hallett Cove School aims to take advantage of the reach and instantaneous nature of social media to communicate with our families.

Kiss and Drop Areas
When dropping off/picking up your child(ren), please remember that the middle lane (Gledsdale Road Kiss and Drop) and right lane (Sanderson Road Kiss and Drop) should not be used as a waiting/parking lane.
Local councils are often out and about at schools ensuring the community use these spaces safely.
Parents and Friends
Hallett Cove School values the contribution of our community and we encourage any of our parents and friend to consider joining the Parents and Friends Group (P&F) in 2024.
The P&F support key functions in the school. Recently, our P&F have held a Sports Day stall, Harmony Day stall, Fun Run and parents are assisting in managing our Street Libraries (outside the Vegetable Garden and Early Years Centre).
