Mathematics

Mathematics is a compulsory subject for students from Year 7 to 11. In Years 7 – 10 students are supported to develop their understanding of mathematical concepts, building on previous learning, under the following topics;

• Number and Algebra
• Measurement and Geometry
• Statistics and Probability.

The curriculum focuses on developing increasingly sophisticated and refined mathematical understanding, fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. These proficiencies enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by employing mathematical strategies to make informed decisions and solve problems efficiently. Students explore these concepts in real-life situations
and use their understanding to solve problems. Students develop the numeracy capabilities that they need for personal and civil life, and provides the fundamental understandings that underpin Mathematical specialties and professional applications.

In Stage 1 and 2, students choose the Mathematics subject that best suits their pathway.
