HaSS is a multidisciplinary approach which offers students the opportunity to explore the intricacies of the past and the complexities of the world around them. Through the study of History and Geography, students develop vital skills in critical thinking, inquiry, and analysis, nurturing a strong sense of civic and global responsibility.
History focuses on developing personal, family, local, state and national historical knowledge and understanding, to having an awareness of regional and world history by Year 10. The Historical inquiry and skills strand promotes:
- Chronology
- Terms and concepts
- Historical questions and research;
- The analysis and use of sources; perspectives and interpretations
- Explanation and communication
- Use of evidence for historical interpretation.
Geography allows our students to build their geographical knowledge and understanding of the world around them through the collection, analysis and presentation of different data types. Students studying Geography build on their understanding of:
- Place
- Space
- Environment
- Interconnection
- Sustainability
- Scale
- Change.
