The Year 7 English course assists students to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating. Students use a variety of texts and media to listen, read, view, interpret, evaluate and perform a range of spoken and written tasks that are designed to inform and persuade. Students develop their understanding of how texts, including media texts, are influenced by context, purpose and audience. Students create a range of imaginative, informative and persuasive types of texts; for example narratives, procedures, performances, reports and discussions. Students will begin to develop skills in written and visual texts.

ASSESSMENT TYPES

Receptive Modes (listening, reading and viewing):
Students explore a range of texts including feature film, poetry, novels and biographies.

Productive Modes (speaking, writing and creating):
Students compose written and spoken texts in various genres including letters, advertisements, procedures and presentations.
