Year 9 Media Arts
LENGTH OF COURSE: Semester or Full Year
ASSUMED BACKGROUND: Nil
SUBJECT CHARGES: Nil
CONTENT:
Media Arts is digital storytelling where students can create short narrative films, podcasts, music videos, and promotional media content. The subject is a hands-on experience where students take on specific production roles including scriptwriter, director, presenter or performer, designer, and editor. Students collaborate as producers, engaging with marketing and distribution to bring their projects to life ready for an audience.
In Media Arts we investigate the ethical responsibility of creating content in Australia. We have excursions to the cinema, Flinders University or the Adelaide Film Festival and build confidence, empathy, self-awareness and creativity. Students learn how to use digital technologies to bring their creative stories to life and team problem solving.
Assessment includes practical film and media content creation, investigations, and evaluations. Media Arts continues into the senior years in the Creative Arts Visual Arts and Media program and there are real opportunities beyond school with growth in the creative industries.
